From Shaking Hands to Confident Bylines: My Transformative Journey at Nation Media Group

Image
πŸ“°✨ Last month, May 2025, marked the culmination of a chapter from this great historic book of mine that I'm writing... I'm not used to such kind of long posts but I'm going to try today 'cause this journey deserves it! πŸ™ˆ When I first walked through the doors of Nation Media Group in February 2025, I carried with me years of preparation, passion for journalism, and a determination to make the most of this opportunity. As a graduate who has completed my Bachelor's in Journalism and Mass Communication with a focus on Electronic Media at Daystar University and is awaiting graduation in November 2025, I was finally stepping into one of East Africa's most prestigious media houses. The Reality Check: Workplace Dynamics Ain't for the Faint-Hearted The small small madharaus (the kawaida one mnakuanga mmewekea interns) - yes wewe, I see you! πŸ‘€ Those inward cries and wanting to burst into tears.  These hardships found in most workplaces have hardened me TWICE as muc...

LEGENDS REST

Veteran news anchor, Catherine Kasavuli, breathed her last on the night of  December 29, 2022 after battling cervical cancer. The renowned journalist was receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital. The unfortunate news was confirmed by the Managing Director of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) , Samuel Maina. "It is true. She passed on yesterday night. It is related to the cancer ailment that she's been bravely fighting in the recent past." said Samuel Maina via a phone call. In November 2022, people were mobilised to donate blood for urgent transfusion after the veteran news presenter was admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital in late October, battling cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. Cervical cancer affects the neck of the womb and it is ranked the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer and leading cause of cancer death in women. But t...

FLUSH OUT THAT "THING?"

Image
“It’s barely 5 weeks old, they say life begins at 5 weeks and I believe, so I wanna flush it out before it starts living..” Hold the phone, that didn’t just come from a Born Again Christian, really!!😱😱😱😱😱😱 I’d started thinking about today’s post a few weeks ago, when a prominent science writer posted on a listserv “What was the CEO of AAAS thinking?” and then quoted Alan I. Leshner telling the New York Times: “K-12, students need to know the nature of science, how scientists work and the domains and limits of science. Science can’t tell you about God. Or when life begins.” “Um…when life begins is a pretty basic idea in biology,” commented the originator of the compelling listserv thread that followed. πŸ‘†;We should be agreeing on this, at least. Child of God,since when did science become our lenses to view life by? The devil is a liar and all that is contrary to the WORD of God is his lie…you can’t dare stoop this low and believe in a lie, or at least, I will not witness that as l...

HOPE AS MIKE SONKO OFFERS TO HELP BABY SAGINI RESTORE HIS SIGHT BACK

Image
It is a sad dark ending for Baby Sagini, a three-year-old boy whose eyes were gouged out. Unknown to him and wondering why everything has turned black for him, he has to come to terms with the cruel reality of having to remain blind for the rest of his life, after both his eyes were mercilessly gouged out by an assailant. The boy was playing with other children outside his grandmother's house in Kisii before the grotesquely tragic experience happened to him. He was snatched by an assailant and was found abandoned in a maize plantation at Ikuruma village in Marani Sub-county covered in blood. He was then rushed to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.  Doctors have however said that he might not see again because his eyes were greatly damaged. Despite the breaking news of doctors confirming that Baby Sagini might have to live with a disability, all hope is not lost as Mike Sonko has offered to fly the three-year-old boy to China for eye implants. Mike Sonko, through a post on h...
