An exquisite bush breakfast under the open skies on Sunday, August 17, 2025, unfurled like a vision from a glossy travel brochure. The cool air held the richness of dew-kissed grass, the aroma of freshly brewed tea curled upwards like a soft invitation, and the golden morning light flowed through the trees. Plates filled with hearty dishes passed around as laughter rang out, louder than the birdsong. LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL FOR MWANGAZA?

The Meru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have filed a motion to impeach Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. This supremacy battle between Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the MCAs has reached boiling point as the impeachment motion has been drafted and signed by 68 of the 69 MCAs. A Meru MCA, who also doubles as the Minority Chief  Whip, has presented a petition before the Meru County Assembly seeking to have Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeached. The Abogeta West MCA, Dennis Kiogora, points to various grounds for impeaching the governor, saying that the governor has infringed the Leadership and Integrity act of Section 10 in the constitution. Kawira’s decision to appoint her husband Baichu Murega as the patron of the Meru Youth Service and ‘Hustlers’ ambassador is one of the grounds cited for her removal. Only Kiagu MCA, Simon Ngaruni, did not sign the motion saying that Kawira had done nothing wrong to warrant impeachment. He said when the governor wanted to address the...
