IS THE FIRST GENTLEMAN OF MERU COUNTY EXPERIENCING GENDER BASED VIOLENCE?

The first gentleman of Meru County, Murega Baichu, spoke on Friday 28th October 2022 at the Milimani Court asking the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to clarify what boundaries he should not cross despite being the governor's husband. 

This is after the Meru MCAs filed a petition to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Murega Baichu claimed how the Meru MCAs have forced him out of the official residence of the governor.

Governor Kawira's husband went on to add that he will be sleeping in their house rather than the official residence since he is not an official of the government, asking EACC to clarify if he should sleep there with his wife or not.

He also asked for clarity from EACC if he should board the same motorcade as the governor as they go work or he should take a bodaboda.

Murega Baichu claims that he has been subjected to gender based violence.

"Kufikia hapo naona napitia ile inaitwa GBV, Gender Based Violence. Kwa hivyo Gender Based Violence sio ya wanawake pekee yake," said Murega Baichu.

Speaking at the Milimani Court, Baichu said that he has been banned from getting a lift from his wife’s official car forcing him to use Boda Boda services.

He also said that he will no longer be sleeping in the official residence but rather in the home him and his wife built.

Governor Kawira Mwangaza had appointed her husband, Murega Baichu, as the Meru Youth Service (MYS) patron while introducing her new cabinet.

Baichu wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to tell him what his limits to his wife are.
