Kenya's Leadership Shocker: Kindiki Takes Deputy President Role in Mid-Term Power Shift!

It was a momentous moment for Kenyan politics: Professor Kithure Kindiki took the oath of office, earlier today at KICC Nairobi, and became the Deputy President of the country, going down in history as one of the few officials to assume such a high office before the end of an electoral term. Far from the usual five-year election cycle, this presents a new dawn in Kenya's political landscape, testing the stability of governance structures in the country. The swearing-in of Kindiki is significant, not only because transitions at the executive level at mid-term periods are rare but also for what it represents: adaptability in governance amidst an evolving political climate.  Conventionally, a deputy president should serve a full term with the president except in circumstances beyond their control. This appointment in the middle of the cycle has, however, driven the point home that leadership changes can occur through constitutional processes and not necessarily through electoral cycle

IS THE FIRST GENTLEMAN OF MERU COUNTY EXPERIENCING GENDER BASED VIOLENCE?

The first gentleman of Meru County, Murega Baichu, spoke on Friday 28th October 2022 at the Milimani Court asking the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to clarify what boundaries he should not cross despite being the governor's husband.

This is after the Meru MCAs filed a petition to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Murega Baichu claimed how the Meru MCAs have forced him out of the official residence of the governor.

Governor Kawira's husband went on to add that he will be sleeping in their house rather than the official residence since he is not an official of the government, asking EACC to clarify if he should sleep there with his wife or not.

He also asked for clarity from EACC if he should board the same motorcade as the governor as they go work or he should take a bodaboda.

Murega Baichu claims that he has been subjected to gender based violence.

"Kufikia hapo naona napitia ile inaitwa GBV, Gender Based Violence. Kwa hivyo Gender Based Violence sio ya wanawake pekee yake," said Murega Baichu.

Speaking at the Milimani Court, Baichu said that he has been banned from getting a lift from his wife’s official car forcing him to use Boda Boda services.

He also said that he will no longer be sleeping in the official residence but rather in the home him and his wife built.
